As a parrot owner and foster parent of special-needs birds, I am continually concerned with the safety of products I use for them. Toxins are of especially high concern with me, as are inferior materials. With so many products available on the market today, how do you know what is safe and what isn't? With consultation and recommendations of a Board Certified Avian Veterinarian, I have attempted to only offer products that I consider to be the safest and most reasonably priced.

My promise to you is that you will never see anything offered here that I would not give to one of my own flock!

EACH AND EVERY ONE of the birds in my flock LOVE these foraging cages!

Sanger, my little plucky ducky, has been a real challenge since I got him in Sept. '07. He really doesn't care about playing with toys, but will spend hours picking out the stuffing in the foraging cage piece by piece.

One of my rescued macaws (bottom picture), who's body was completely plucked two weeks ago when I got her (12/08), is now showing down feathers and some red pin feathers. She is just too busy with her foraging and shredding toys to bother with feathers right now!

Suggested Foraging Cage Fillers:
Nuts in shell
shredded gift bag paper
white tissue paper
wooden blocks and beads
large plastic beads
wicker munch balls
any destroyed toy leftover parts
old foot toys that were of no interest
paper finger traps
loofa rounds
popsicle sticks
wicker vine rings & twists
Birdie Bagels
strips of woven shredder tape
dehydrated orange peels (wash thoroughly before drying)
dehydrated grapefruit peels (wash these too!)
seagrass rope (I tie a knot in the middle of these and loop it over the center bar of the foraging cage - drives them nuts trying to pull it out!)
anything munchable and chewable that will keep them busy trying to get out of the cage

Be prepared for the biggest mess in the bottom of the cage you have ever experienced. I have never seen a bird have so much fun! Most of the time, the hidden treats I put in there are thrown overboard because they can't wait to see what else is in there.

WARNING: Do not attempt to fill your foraging cages while your birds are right there with you. They will empty the stuffings out the top faster than you can put it in and may growl and lunge at you to get away from their treasures (especially during hormonal season).
